Embrace Midwifery Care

Hello! Congratulations on your pregnancy!

I hope to get to know you soon, and perhaps help you on your journey to parenthood.

I am a graduate of the National Midwifery Institute, which is a 3 year, Midwives Education Accreditation Counsel (MEAC) school, and also have taken trainings with Doulas of North America (DONA) and Birthing from Within. I'm certified with the North American Registry of Midwives (NARM) as a Certified Professional Midwife (CPM), and additionally I am Advanced Life Support in Obstetrics (ALSO)certified. I am current in CPR and Neonatal Resuscitation.  And yes!  I am a licensed midwife (LM) in the Commonwealth of Virginia.

I worked at the Doula Foundation of Mid America while going through midwifery school, which allowed me to support high risk women who had chosen the medical model with hospital-based care. I obtained my clinical training at a very high volume birth center, Casa de Nacimiento in El Paso, TX, as I wanted to gain as much hands-on experience as possible. I then moved to Springfield, Missouri where I apprenticed with an experienced and busy homebirth midwife. I have had the opportunity to train or work with 13 different midwives, and appreciate the depth that many perspectives and styles have brought to the care I provide for mothers and babies.

After completing my midwifery training in 2011 and becoming a CPM, I had a private homebirth practice in Southwest Missouri before I was offered a position as a staff midwife at Mamatoto Resource and Birth Centre in Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago. After careful consideration, I decided I wanted to be the woman who said yes, not no, to a grand adventure! I moved to the West Indies where I thoroughly enjoyed serving a diverse population and learning a whole new culture for 18 months. I have now assisted women from so many walks of life with their pregnancies and births… on the border of Mexico, I spent months serving Hispanic women who spoke no English; I've witnessed Amish women giving birth by lamplight; I've stayed with high-risk mothers birthing in the hospital; I've gently guided Rastafarian mamas to birth sweet island babies underwater; I've attended doctors' wives who chose home birth and placenta encapsulation and I've sat with hippie mothers singing to their unborn babies under the moon. The truth is all women birth in similar ways, and they all know how to do it. It’s intuitive.

I am passionate about educating, supporting and empowering parents to find the path that is right for them and their baby. I believe strongly that all parents should have informed choice, not just informed consent. I believe my job as a midwife is to provide excellent, unbiased information and resources and trust that no one wants better for your baby than you!
